Late fees constitute a barrier to an equitable access to a major cultural institution—libraries. Following the example of many important American libraries, the Halifax Public Libraries finally decided to abolish all fines related to late returns; forever. An important move that was, in many people’s opinion, long overdue.

Idea: Libraries are about the countless stories they house. So a good way to proclaim Halifax libraries’ new fine-free policy is through a direct, simple references to the quintessential story container—books.
